All County Details

Whoohoo, all the details have been finalized!  We are super excited to see how well our Sea Dragons will do against all the swimmers in the County!  When you committed to swimming all county, the Sea Dragons were committed number of workers required. We must fulfill all worker spots for all no-shows which means double shifts for Wentzville workers.   This meet runs very fast and swimmers will be back to the bullpen right after they finish an event.  I expect the meet to be finished by Noon!

When:  Saturday August 5th (Morning Session)
6:00 am – Rec Plex doors open
6:30 am – Call teams for warm ups
7:00 am – End warm ups and have swimmers gather on pool deck
7:10 am – Team Roll Call
7:20 am – Call all workers to their positions. Call all timers 1st/2nd half for timer    meeting
7:30 am – Start meet
Varying time – Call 2nd half workers at beginning event #11(North Pool) & #39(South Pool). Take 5-10 minute break to get 2nd half workers into position

Where:  Rec-Plex Pool in St. Peters

Check-In:  Upon arrival, please find the Sea Dragon Check-In the lobby of the Rec-Plex. You'll receive your swimmers shirt and worker sticker.  Then you can make your way to the bleachers above the pool.    Link to Worker Assignments

Heat Sheets:  There are not heat cards for All County like in regular season.  Below are the heat sheets which you can find your swimmer with event/heat/lane.  There will not be any heat sheets available at the meet.  You are welcome to print them out at home. IMPORTANT:  Write your swimmer's events, heats and lanes on the swimmer's arm as this will make the bullpen run smoothly.

Couple of Extra Details:

  • Only swimmers, coaches and active volunteers will have access to the pool deck on Saturday. Parents will not be allowed to accompany their swimmers to the bullpen.
  • 1st half workers will be called down immediately following the warm-ups.
  • There will be a 5-10 minute break between the 1st and 2nd half to give 2nd half workers plenty of time to get into position. The announcer will give a first call for 2nd half workers a few minutes before the break but please note that the 2nd half start time may vary between the two pools as they will run at different speeds. Therefore, workers will need to pay attention to which pool's workers are being called for.
  • If you have a 2nd half security position (stairs or poolside) or announcer they will report to their position when the 2nd half workers for the SOUTH pool are called.
  • Please also note that if you have any relief/backup workers they can be called for 1st OR 2nd half in morning session.

Fourth of July Parade, Meet Signups

Great job Monday night from all our swimmers, fewer DQ's and I was very impressed with Sea Dragon Swimmers behavior in the bullpen.  It was a long wait for races and most of the swimmers were very patient.   Although it was very close all night in overall points, we ended up losing the meet by 40ish points.

JULY FOURTH PARADE: Sea Dragons will be participating in the Wentzville Fourth of July parade!   The parade will happen rain or shine.  Let's make a big impression this year as we will be judged along the parade route!  Bring your big USA spirit!   Please wear your Sea Dragon Suit and/or Sea Dragon Shirt.  We are collecting donations for candy for the walkers to pass out along the parade route.  The parade begins at 10:00am.  Bring your towel for a comfy seat! There will be bottled water iced down for drinking. Please don’t use the water to pour on yourself or anyone else. Swimmers can bring candy to toss along the parade route, but please do not bring water guns.
  • Arrive by 9:00am at Progress Park.
  • Leave at 9:15am to go to Holt High School.
  • Parents are welcome to walk along.
  • Swimmers bring a towel or blanket to sit on the trailer.
  • Swimmers age 12 & Up can walk but must walk the entire route.
  • Pick up Swimmers back at Progress Park
FLOAT DECORATION:  We are really excited about our float this year and looking for some parent volunteers to help decorate.  If you would like to volunteer, please email Amanda @ aharrisauto@yahoo.com for details.  We'll be working really hard this week in the evenings and next Monday evening to get the float decorated.  This year's parade theme is "Salute to Your American Heritage"!

PAPER TUBES:  Please save those paper towel tubes, Pringle tubes, wrapping paper tube (you get the idea).  I’d like all swimmers riding the float to have a telescope made from a paper tube (or something similar).  Keep it simple, can just color the end black or get as fancy as you’d like.

MEET SIGN UP:  Signups for the next two meets (July 10th Monday & July 15th Saturday) will go out this Thursday

Tuesday, June 27, 2017

Stroke Judge Clinic Tonight!

STROKE JUDGE CLINIC:  Tonight, Stroke Judge Clinic will be at Charlie & Merri Moore's house starts 7pm at 1807 Mulligan Ct. Wentzville.  Stroke Judge Certification is good for 3 years and there is no charge for certification.  The knowledge you learn at the clinic will help you explain to new swimmers how to swim the stroke correctly.

Lake St Louis Meet Details and Practice Schedule This Week

Tomorrow's nights weather is going to be amazing!  Warmups at 5pm and meet starts at 5:30pm. The meet is at 100 Cognac, Lake St Louis.  I would recommend arriving early as parking is in along neighborhood streets.

We will be doing heat cards at practice in the morning and could use extra hands to make sure we get it all done quickly.

Practice will be held Monday but no practice Tuesday due to the Monday night meet.  Blue Dragons (Swimmers with Coach Megan & Coach Brandon) swim Wednesday, Thursday, Friday mornings this week.

Details from the League Website:
  • Due to limited space, and concessions considerations, no coolers are allowed at our home meets
  • Parking in the main clubhouse parking lot is restricted to Lake Saint Louis Community Association members only. All others should utilize available on-street parking.
  • No swimmers may use the lake during the meet. We are unable to monitor swimmers outside of the pool deck, and we also need to keep sand out of the pool.
  • Visiting teams are assigned the lake side of the pool, and the area around the baby pool. LSL swimmers and families are assigned the clubhouse side of the pool, which includes the area under the clubhouse deck. No one should set up chairs or watch the meet from either end of the pool, unless they are outside of the pool fence.

Typo in today's Post!

Typo was the incorrect date; sorry for the confusion

Away Meet Monday June 26 @ Lake St. Louis:  Sign-ups for the next meet will be out Tuesday and remain out until Thursday.  Please mark Yes or No and also sign up for worker positions.  No concession signups for an away meet.

Meet Pictures, Stroke Judge Clinic, Upcoming Meet vs LakeSt.Louis

Saturday's Home Meet: Amazing job from all swimmers on Saturday, we won that meet by only 13 points.  I would like to thank all the parents for stepping up to run a very well organized meet.

Race Assignments:  It has come to my attention that on Saturday we had lots of experienced swimmers asking coaches if they can switch out of events.  We will not move swimmers from events if they know how to swim the race.  Although it may not be their favorite, it is good to experience other events and to challenge themselves.   We need parents to help with this effort.

Away Meet Monday June 26 @ Lake St. Louis:  Sign-ups for the next meet will be out Tuesday and remain out until Thursday.  Please mark Yes or No and also sign up for worker positions.  No concession signups for an away meet.

Team Photography:  Thank you to the Woodson Family to stepped up to take pictures at the meets and to do our year end video.  We are posting those to Facebook this year.  Feel free to tag, post, share.  If you have photography experience and would like to help if needed, please contact me.

Stroke Judge Clinic:  Our own Charlie Moore will be conducting a stroke judge clinic on Tuesday June 27th at 7pm.  Certification is good for 3 years and it's free!  Please RSVP so we know how many people to expect.

Second Home Meet Details

This week has been interesting from a very successful first home meet, to not being able to use the pool because of chemical levels, rain yesterday (watching the radar like a hawk at 5am to see if we can have practice).  Thanks to our coaches for thinking on their feet with a fun game of ships and sailors while we couldn't swim on Tuesday.  I think all ages had fun!

I need to clarify that we will have a total of 3 home meets!  That's what happens when you get busy and modify a blog post from last year.  Sorry for the confusion but I do now know who actually reads these!  Gold Star folks!!

Pool Setup Friday Night:
6pm tonight.  We will need help with setting up the pool deck and icing down drinks.

Volunteers:  Please check in as soon as you arrive with our Volunteer Coordinators (Ladies with Pink Sea Dragons Shirts) First half workers need to stay until their second half Sea Dragon parent replacement arrives. Second half workers need to arrive promptly at halftime of the meet, which will be announced, and work until the end of the meet. Even though your child may finish swimming before the end of the meet, you need to cover the entire half.

The meet will begin promptly at 7am.  I would suggest arrive between 6-6:15am.  Gate will be open by 5:45am Saturday morning. You are welcome to arrive anytime after 6am!

No Outside Food/Drink:  Please remember that no outside food or drink is to be brought in the gate. This is a city ordinance for Progress Park’s pool. We have a wonderful concession with a full menu of goodies.

Wentzville Sea Dragons Famous Breakfast Burritos

One breakfast burrito mix:
18 eggs
1 can ro-tel tomatoes
1 pound of browned sausage
Maybe a little shredded cheese
Salt & Pepper

Tips from Cheryl McDonald:  "I put water in my crock pot overnight and put on warm to get the crock pot hot for Saturday morning.  I usually cook the sausage the night before. Then Saturday morning, I scramble the eggs and combine with the remaining ingredients the morning of the meet, drain the water from my crock pot, and the burrito egg mix is ready to go to the pool!"!

First Week of Practice, Team Shirts, Inclement Weather

Just like the first week of school, the first week of practices can be a little chaotic.  Coaches will be evaluating swimmers and determining what lane each swimmer belongs in.    Please give the coaches some space this coming week to do their jobs.  Swimmers will be moved all summer long as swimmers perfect strokes and gain endurance.  Practice starts Tuesday after Memorial Day, May 30th from 7-8:30am.  Swimmers:  please stay out of the pool until coaches are through with dry land warm-ups and instruct you to get into the pool.

First week of practice schedule is as follows:
New Swimmers 8 & Up:  Start Tuesday May 30th and are welcome everyday this week.
New Swimmers 7 & Under:  Start Tuesday May 30th and will practice Thursday & Friday
Returning Swimmers:  Please return to the lane you ended last season.  I do have records if needed.
Returning Blue Dragons (Coach Megan & Brandon):  Start Tuesday May 30th and will practice Thursday & Friday.

Inclement Weather Policy NEW APP:
Practices will be held in light rain.  If the weather is severe, there will be no practice.  If the weather is threatening, please do not drop off swimmers as there is no indoor facilities available.  We are using a new App this year.  Please use one of the following avenues to find out the status of practice or meets.

Photos from Meets 2016-Chair Person Needed 2017

We are so blessed to have families that are willing to take pictures of our kids while we are putting on a meet.  Here are few links to see all those moments during meets.  Thanks Blanca Parciak & Dan Tripp for your gift of photos.

For 2017, we are in need of a Photography Chair.   This position could be split between 2 or 3 families.  This position includes taking photos at meets for both races and behind the scenes in the bullpen.  I'd like to upload them to the Sea Dragon facebook page this year instead of stand alone websites.  Creating a slideshow for the year end banquet is also included in this position.

New Family Registration Saturday April 8 from 7-9am

Looking to join the Wentzville Sea Dragons for the Summer 2017?  Open Registration will be held on Saturday April 8th from 7-9am at the Green Lantern at 506 South Linn Ave, Wentzville.  We will accept cash and check only.

Here is some general information about our team:

We are a team of 200+ kids from ages 5-18 that practices 7:00am until 8:30am, Monday through Friday during June and July.  We ask that kids make it to at least three practices per week.  There will be six meets over the summer with three at our home pool at Progress Park (Saturday mornings early), and the other three on Monday evenings at pools in St Charles County.  Our swim meets are in June and July.
The cost per year is $85 per swimmer for Wentzville residents.  The non-resident fee will be an extra $10 per swimmer.  We also have a team suit.  However, it is not a requirement, as the cost is around $50-60 per suit. Available at Johnny Mac’s, 5819 Suemandy Road in St. Peters.  Goggles are needed and silicone swim caps are strongly encouraged.  Johnny Mac's will come out before practices start to fit swimsuits and goggles.  That date has not been set at this time.
One important item is that we will add Wentzville city residents before non-residents.  This will be evidenced by a paid tax receipt to the city verifed by the Parks Dept.  Thank you for your interest!  We have a great team of terrific families & coaches!

Hope to see you on Saturday April 8th from 7-9am.  Registration does fill quickly depending on age and gender.  Please keep in mind we do take returning families first through April 5th
