Fourth of July Parade, Meet Signups

Great job Monday night from all our swimmers, fewer DQ's and I was very impressed with Sea Dragon Swimmers behavior in the bullpen.  It was a long wait for races and most of the swimmers were very patient.   Although it was very close all night in overall points, we ended up losing the meet by 40ish points.

JULY FOURTH PARADE: Sea Dragons will be participating in the Wentzville Fourth of July parade!   The parade will happen rain or shine.  Let's make a big impression this year as we will be judged along the parade route!  Bring your big USA spirit!   Please wear your Sea Dragon Suit and/or Sea Dragon Shirt.  We are collecting donations for candy for the walkers to pass out along the parade route.  The parade begins at 10:00am.  Bring your towel for a comfy seat! There will be bottled water iced down for drinking. Please don’t use the water to pour on yourself or anyone else. Swimmers can bring candy to toss along the parade route, but please do not bring water guns.

FLOAT DECORATION:  We are really excited about our float this year and looking for some parent volunteers to help decorate.  If you would like to volunteer, please email Amanda @ aharrisauto@yahoo.com for details.  We'll be working really hard this week in the evenings and next Monday evening to get the float decorated.  This year's parade theme is "Salute to Your American Heritage"!

PAPER TUBES:  Please save those paper towel tubes, Pringle tubes, wrapping paper tube (you get the idea).  I’d like all swimmers riding the float to have a telescope made from a paper tube (or something similar).  Keep it simple, can just color the end black or get as fancy as you’d like.

MEET SIGN UP:  Signups for the next two meets (July 10th Monday & July 15th Saturday) will go out this Thursday

Stroke Judge Clinic Tonight!

STROKE JUDGE CLINIC:  Tonight, Stroke Judge Clinic will be at Charlie & Merri Moore's house starts 7pm at 1807 Mulligan Ct. Wentzville.  Stroke Judge Certification is good for 3 years and there is no charge for certification.  The knowledge you learn at the clinic will help you explain to new swimmers how to swim the stroke correctly.

Lake St Louis Meet Details and Practice Schedule This Week

Tomorrow's nights weather is going to be amazing!  Warmups at 5pm and meet starts at 5:30pm. The meet is at 100 Cognac, Lake St Louis.  I would recommend arriving early as parking is in along neighborhood streets.

We will be doing heat cards at practice in the morning and could use extra hands to make sure we get it all done quickly.

Practice will be held Monday but no practice Tuesday due to the Monday night meet.  Blue Dragons (Swimmers with Coach Megan & Coach Brandon) swim Wednesday, Thursday, Friday mornings this week.

Details from the League Website:
  • Due to limited space, and concessions considerations, no coolers are allowed at our home meets
  • Parking in the main clubhouse parking lot is restricted to Lake Saint Louis Community Association members only. All others should utilize available on-street parking.
  • No swimmers may use the lake during the meet. We are unable to monitor swimmers outside of the pool deck, and we also need to keep sand out of the pool.
  • Visiting teams are assigned the lake side of the pool, and the area around the baby pool. LSL swimmers and families are assigned the clubhouse side of the pool, which includes the area under the clubhouse deck. No one should set up chairs or watch the meet from either end of the pool, unless they are outside of the pool fence.

Typo in today's Post!

Typo was the incorrect date; sorry for the confusion

Away Meet Monday June 26 @ Lake St. Louis:  Sign-ups for the next meet will be out Tuesday and remain out until Thursday.  Please mark Yes or No and also sign up for worker positions.  No concession signups for an away meet.

Meet Pictures, Stroke Judge Clinic, Upcoming Meet vs LakeSt.Louis

Saturday's Home Meet: Amazing job from all swimmers on Saturday, we won that meet by only 13 points.  I would like to thank all the parents for stepping up to run a very well organized meet.

Race Assignments:  It has come to my attention that on Saturday we had lots of experienced swimmers asking coaches if they can switch out of events.  We will not move swimmers from events if they know how to swim the race.  Although it may not be their favorite, it is good to experience other events and to challenge themselves.   We need parents to help with this effort.

Away Meet Monday June 26 @ Lake St. Louis:  Sign-ups for the next meet will be out Tuesday and remain out until Thursday.  Please mark Yes or No and also sign up for worker positions.  No concession signups for an away meet.

Team Photography:  Thank you to the Woodson Family to stepped up to take pictures at the meets and to do our year end video.  We are posting those to Facebook this year.  Feel free to tag, post, share.  If you have photography experience and would like to help if needed, please contact me.

Stroke Judge Clinic:  Our own Charlie Moore will be conducting a stroke judge clinic on Tuesday June 27th at 7pm.  Certification is good for 3 years and it's free!  Please RSVP so we know how many people to expect.

Second Home Meet Details

This week has been interesting from a very successful first home meet, to not being able to use the pool because of chemical levels, rain yesterday (watching the radar like a hawk at 5am to see if we can have practice).  Thanks to our coaches for thinking on their feet with a fun game of ships and sailors while we couldn't swim on Tuesday.  I think all ages had fun!

I need to clarify that we will have a total of 3 home meets!  That's what happens when you get busy and modify a blog post from last year.  Sorry for the confusion but I do now know who actually reads these!  Gold Star folks!!

Pool Setup Friday Night:
6pm tonight.  We will need help with setting up the pool deck and icing down drinks.

Volunteers:  Please check in as soon as you arrive with our Volunteer Coordinators (Ladies with Pink Sea Dragons Shirts) First half workers need to stay until their second half Sea Dragon parent replacement arrives. Second half workers need to arrive promptly at halftime of the meet, which will be announced, and work until the end of the meet. Even though your child may finish swimming before the end of the meet, you need to cover the entire half.

Arrival Saturday Morning:  Please arrive early enough to get your space set up for the morning before water warm-ups at 6:30am. The meet will begin promptly at 7am.  I would suggest arrive between 6-6:15am.  Gate will be open by 5:45am Saturday morning. You are welcome to arrive anytime after 6am!

Concession Items:  If you signed up for drinks, please those by Friday night.  All other items bring Saturday morning before the meet.  The binder will be out to check off your name that you brought your items.  We are still in need of the items!  Generally your donation needs to be between $10-15 worth of items for each meet.

No Outside Food/Drink:  Please remember that no outside food or drink is to be brought in the gate. This is a city ordinance for Progress Park’s pool. We have a wonderful concession with a full menu of goodies.

Late Swimmers:  Swimmers who are late will be pulled from relays. Being late also can result in not being placed in a relay for future meets.

Wentzville Sea Dragons Famous Breakfast Burritos

One breakfast burrito mix:
18 eggs
1 can ro-tel tomatoes
1 pound of browned sausage
Maybe a little shredded cheese
Salt & Pepper

Tips from Cheryl McDonald:  "I put water in my crock pot overnight and put on warm to get the crock pot hot for Saturday morning.  I usually cook the sausage the night before. Then Saturday morning, I scramble the eggs and combine with the remaining ingredients the morning of the meet, drain the water from my crock pot, and the burrito egg mix is ready to go to the pool!"!
